Opening Times
Are you open all year round?
We operate during two main seasons: December to March, and June to October.
Why does Chesa Marchetta open exclusively during the winter and summer seasons?
Chesa Marchetta welcomes guests in winter and summer, when the region is at its peak. During these seasons, we invite you to experience the very best of the Engadin with us. From skiing and tobogganing in the winter to walking, swimming and watersports in the summer, and a year-round calendar of events in Sils Maria and nearby St Moritz – plan your trip to the Engadin now. What are the restaurant’s opening hours?
The restaurant is open for dinner daily from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. The restaurant is open to both non-residents and hotel guests. Breakfast is available in the restaurant for hotel guests.
Is lunch available?
Light snacks and small plates are available at the hotel bar for both non-residents and hotel guests between 12:30pm and 3:00pm.
Do you offer 24-hour service?
Reception and bar staff are available throughout the day and evening. During the night, an emergency phone number will be provided. A member of staff can be on-site within 10 minutes if needed.
Hotel Information
Are you family friendly?
Yes, we welcome children of all ages. Baby cots are available upon request. Please note that guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult to check in.
Are dogs welcome?
Yes, dogs are welcome in the hotel for an additional charge, and in the bar and the restaurant.
Is there Wi-Fi?
Yes, complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel and restaurant.
What is your smoking policy?
The hotel is non-smoking indoors. However, smoking is permitted at designated tables on the patio.
Is there a bar?
Yes there is a cocktail bar and lounge which is open to guests and non-residents during the day and evening.
What art will be on view?
There is a comprehensive collection of historic and modern masterpieces, contemporary highlights and outdoor sculptures. Many of the artists included have strong links to the region and several, including Louise Bourgeois, Philip Guston, Paul McCarthy, Nicholas Party and Jason Rhoades are Hauser & Wirth gallery artists. Artists who have been either lived in or been inspired by Sils Maria and the Engadin feature prominently.
Does the hotel have a spa?
Chesa Marchetta has access to the Waldhaus Spa, please speak to a member of the team for details.
Does the hotel have a gym?
No, Chesa Marchetta does not have a gym. However, guests can enjoy the natural beauty of the Engadin with walks, hikes, and outdoor pursuits right on our doorstep.
Does the hotel have a pool?
No, there is no swimming pool at the hotel. During the summer months, Lake Sils is a 10 minute walk away.
What sets Chesa Marchetta apart from other hotels in Sils Maria?
Sils Maria is home to many wonderful hotels, but if you’re seeking an intimate and secluded retreat, Chesa Marchetta is the ideal choice. The hotel features an extensive collection of artworks, and each bedroom is uniquely designed by Luis Laplace.
Does the hotel provide direct access to skiing?
While the hotel does not offer direct ski-in, ski-out access, the region’s exceptional ski areas are just a short distance away.
What makes Sils Maria such a distinctive Swiss Alpine destination?
Sils Maria is special for its unspoilt natural beauty, beautiful lakes, and rich cultural heritage – known for its bright light and crystal-clear air. Located just 20 minutes from St. Moritz, it offers a peaceful and authentic Alpine experience.
What outdoor experiences are available directly from the hotel?
The Engadin Valley offers exceptional outdoor experiences year-round. In summer, guests can enjoy hiking and cycling trails, alpine flower meadows, and nearby lakes such as Sils and Silvaplana, perfect for swimming and watersports. Booking and Payment
How can I / my client book?
Reservations for both the hotel and restaurant can be made directly through the website chesamarchetta.ch. You may also enquire via info@chesamarchetta.ch
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Amex, Visa, Visa debit, Mastercard, Diners
Can I hire the whole hotel?
Yes, the hotel is available for exclusive hire. Please contact us for further details.
Is there a minimum stay?
On weekends there is a 2-night minimum.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes, we require the first night’s deposit upon booking. The remaining balance is due 48 hours before arrival
What is your cancellation policy for the hotel?
Cancellations made more than 14 days before arrival are fully refundable. For cancellations within 14 days, the deposit is non-refundable. Please refer to our Terms & Conditions page for full details as some dates including Christmas and New Year require full non-refundable payment upfront.
What is your cancellation policy for the restaurant?
Cancellations made more than 48 hours in advance are fully refundable. Within 48 hours, a charge of CHF 50 per guest applies.
What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is available from 3:00pm. Check-out is by 11:00am
Is early check-in or late check-out available?
We’ll do our best to accommodate early arrivals or late departures when possible. Please let us know in advance.

What room types do you offer?
We have 13 bedrooms in total: 1 family suite, 2 deluxe rooms, 3 superior rooms and 7 standard rooms.
Standard Rooms: Rooms 1 (Wood), 2 (Wild Horses), 4 (Pinecone), 5 (Pomegranate), 6 (Fresh water mussels), 8 (Nymph), 9 (Birds)
Superior Rooms: Room 10 (Crystals), 11 (Hanging Carnation), 12 (Dragon)
Deluxe Rooms: Room 3 (Fish), Room 7 (Tree of Life)
Family suite – Sun & Moon
What size are the rooms?
The standard rooms are approximately 14 – 16m², the superior rooms are 18 – 21m², the deluxe rooms are 23 – 26m² and the suite is 43m².
What is the maximum occupancy per room?
The suite can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 children. All other rooms accommodate 2 guests. For families, Rooms 3 and 7 (one deluxe, one standard) and Rooms 10 and 11 (two superior) are interconnected.
What meals are included?
Breakfast is included with all stays. Breakfast is available from 7:30am – 10:30am.
What are the bed sizes?
The suite and superior rooms feature 180cm beds. Deluxe rooms and standard rooms have either 160cm or 180cm beds. Please ask our team for details of specific rooms.
Are the pillows hypoallergenic?
Pillows are feather, and hypoallergenic are available on request.
Are baby cots available?
Yes, cots are available but must be requested at the time of booking.
What amenities are included?
All hotel guests can enjoy complimentary parking in the village.
All bedrooms include a safe; a coffee machine; tea, coffee and water; a homemade traditional sweet treat; daily turndown service; WiFi; a luxury bathrobe and slippers, Emma Kunz herbal essence and Albamhor bath and beauty products.
In addition, the Deluxe Rooms include Urs Hauser grappa, a selection of locally brewed beer and soft drinks, and a selection of Engadin sweet and savoury treats. The suite also includes a television and a fridge.
Luxury bathrobes, shoe bags, shopping bags and laundry bags are available to purchase on request.
Is there a laundry service?
Yes, an in-house laundry service is available upon request. Laundry bags can be found in your bathroom.
Parking and Accessibility
Do you offer parking?
Yes although this is off site in the town’s public car park. Guests should check in first to collect a parking pass before parking.
Are your rooms and restaurant accessible?
One ground-floor room is fully accessible, and a lift serves all other floors except the suite. The restaurant and bar are also fully accessible.
Is public transport nearby?
The nearest train station is St. Moritz, 10 km (20 minutes) away. Bus services run from Sils Maria to St. Moritz. Rental cars are available in St. Moritz, and both Zurich and Milan are within a three-hour drive. Taxis from St. Moritz can be arranged upon request.
The nearest international airports are Milan and Zurich. Samedan private airport is also a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
Does the hotel provide transport or transfers?
Yes. Private transfers to and from airports, train stations, or nearby destinations can be arranged by our team.
Restaurant Information
Do you have a restaurant?
Yes. Our 46 cover on-site restaurant is open to both hotel guests and the public.
Is the restaurant open to non-resident guests, and is a reservation required?
Yes, our restaurant is open to all guests. We recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
What style of food do you serve?
Chesa Marchetta offers a small, seasonal menu that channels Northern Italian and Swiss mountain traditions with a variety of daily changing specials.
Where are your ingredients for the restaurant sourced from?
We prioritise seasonal, locally sourced produce from trusted regional suppliers and small family producers. All our meat and cheese is sourced from the Engadin, Val Bregaglia, Valposchiavo and Chiavenna.
Do you offer private dining?
Yes. We offer a private dining room and a private bar, both of which seat up to 6 guests. These can be hired separately or together.
Is there outdoor seating?
Yes, during the summer a small outdoor seating area is available when weather permits, with orders placed via the bar.
Do you offer parking?
For restaurant visitors, several paid and free parking options are available in Sils, although many are time-limited or can fill up quickly. We recommend allowing a little extra time to find parking, especially during busy periods.
A convenient option is the Parkhaus Sils / Val Fex, a covered underground garage with 400 spaces located at the entrance to Sils Maria. It is open 24 hours a day. Once you arrive in Sils Maria, Chesa Marchetta is located within walking distance of the village center. Due to the historic layout of the village, some streets may have limited vehicle access, so you may need to park nearby and walk the final short distance.
Dietary Requirements
Do you cater for allergies and dietary requirements?
Yes, we are happy to accommodate most allergies and dietary needs. Please let us know in advance so our chefs can prepare accordingly.
Do you offer vegetarian or vegan options?
Yes, vegetarian and vegan dishes are always available.
Are gluten-free options available?
Yes, we will have gluten-free options.
About Chesa Marchetta
Who owned the hotel before?
Chesa Marchetta was owned by the Godly family from 1947, previously a restaurant and Pensiun that played host to many, including Gerhard Richter and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Sisters Maria and Christina Godly were the most recent owners.
How has the hotel been restored?
Our restoration celebrates local craftsmanship. Laplace collaborated with skilled artisans including:

Lace curtains by a Benedictine nun from St .Johann in Mustair
Nuotclà & Da Silva GmbH (sgraffito)

What sustainability measures have you taken?
18 ground-source heat pumps provide energy-efficient heating.
Salvaged wood has been used wherever possible.
Food waste is repurposed for biomass energy in partnership with the village of Sils.
Vintage furniture has been sourced from Ettlin and other specialists.
